First tribe in US to receive EPA certification for watershed plan

The Environmental Protection Agency has announced that the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe is the first tribe in the nation to receive EPA certification for its watershed-based plan. It focuses on goals to restore and protect water quality within the Dungeness watershed. Parts of the watershed are inundated with low dissolved oxygen levels, fecal coliform contamination, loss of habitat and heavy metals.

“By forging unique partnerships and using science to guide its decisions, the Jamestown S’Kallam Tribe continues to provide exemplary environmental leadership to the Dungeness,” said Elin Miller, Region 10 Regional Administrator.
