LAPUSH (Sept. 20, 2001) To combat diminishing returns from commercial salmon fishing, some Quileute tribal fishermen will try their hand at a limited charter boat salmon fishing season this fall.
Five Quileute fishermen have completed the 100-ton master class required by the U.S. Coast Guard to operate a charter boat. While the immediate focus is salmon fishing, the charter license will allow the operators to take customers out for scenic tours of any type.
This year, charter boat operators will lease their charter licenses from existing non-Indian charter license holders.
