NEAH BAY (Sept. 3, 2002) — Good returns of Sooes River chinook mean the Makah Tribe will again offer sport anglers the chance to catch one of the prized fish beginning Aug. 20 in Neah Bay.
Twenty years ago, there were only 150 fish returning to the river to spawn. This year, more than 4,000 will return to the National Fish Hatchery.

I was wondering how this fishery is going. I will be out at the end of August and I was wondering what the regulations are, and what are the best techniques if it is open for chinook.
Thank You,
Eli
Check back again right before your trip. The expected chinook run is still being calculated. If it’s possible to offer the rod and reel fishery, the regulation is not usually cut by the tribe until right before Makah Days – the weekend of your trip. Washburn’s General Store should have the information about the regulation when you arrive – or call natural resources at 360-645-3160.
