Nisqually Tribe puts $450,000 towards salmon habitat

Mar 17th, 2009 • Category: NWIFC Blog

The Olympian reports on a recent round of grants awarded by the Nisqually Tribe to habitat restoration and protection:

“The total acres of habitat that will be protected or restored with these grants is more than double the area impacted by the pipeline,” said Cynthia Iyall, chairwoman of the Nisqually tribe, which awarded the grants.

The grant process was an example of “Mitigation that Works,” a new effort in Washington State to refocus mitigation money on projects that have a much higher benefit to impacted ecosystems.
